FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some frequently asked questions that I tend to receive. If you still have something you’d like to ask, feel free to contact me for more details and I will do my best to help you get all the information you need.

Baby Breastfeeding

Why work with you?

I am a Belgian general practitioner who specialized in early childhood for the last 10 years. When I arrived in the USA for my husband's job and my medical degree was not recognized, I took this opportunity to specialize in breastfeeding and HypnoBirthing. I obtained the IBCLC certification as a lactation consultant, which is recognized worldwide, as well as a certification in HypnoBirthing. My expatriation also allowed me to train in baby massage (IAIM-International Association of Infant Massage) and in physiological babywearing.

I am curious and I really like alternative medicines such as homeopathy, osteopathy, naturopathy and breastfeeding... Myself a mother of four young children of close ages (5-10), I went through the same difficulties as other mothers, which allows me to understand them perfectly.

Convinced by what I do, I am full of positive energy and I like to transmit it. I have a great capacity to adapt, which allows me to work with (future) mothers from all walks of life and without judgment.

My multidisciplinary support takes care of the body and mind and covers pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum, nutrition and many other topics. They take place from the 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy and directly after the birth of the baby. The combined effect of these different supports considerably increases your chances of giving birth gently, succeeding in your breastfeeding and flourishing as a mother.

Breast Milk Pump

What kind of personality do you work best with? What do you expect from mothers who use your services?

I am looking for mothers who are committed to breastfeeding and who are willing to work hard to make it happen. I am also looking for mothers who are open to learning new things and who are willing to try different things. I believe that breastfeeding is a natural and normal way to feed a baby, and I am passionate about helping mothers to achieve their breastfeeding goals.

I am not a magician with a magic wand. But I am a guide, using advice and tools that are scientifically proven and already tested by other practitioners. I can only help people who are ready to be helped, that is to say, who are ready to implement the advice offered. This condition is the most important for this program to work.

The program is not a substitute for medical care. If you have any medical concerns, please consult a doctor.

Am I in-network with your insurance? What about reimbursement?

I understand navigating insurance for lactation support can be confusing. Let's break it down!

In-Network Options:

In New Jersey, most IBCLCs like myself are considered out-of-network for most insurance plans. However, your insurance still likely covers lactation consultations as preventative care under the Affordable Care Act (ACA)!

Maximizing Reimbursement:

  • Before your first visit:

    • Call your insurance company and confirm coverage for out-of-network IBCLCs. Mention the ACA and NJ law requiring coverage for breastfeeding support by IBCLCs.

    • Ask about coverage details for diagnosis codes like Z39.1 (lactation issues) and Q38.1 (tongue-tie) and procedure codes S9443, 99404, and 99204.

    • Document the call date, time, and representative's name.

  • Claim Submission:

    • I will typically bill you using these codes and provide an invoice for submission to your insurance.

    • Remember, coverage varies by plan and can involve deductibles and co-pays.

Facing Denials:

  • If your claim is denied, don't hesitate to appeal! Cite the ACA and NJ law and explain you followed recommended procedures

Remember:

  • While navigating insurance can be complex, the benefits of lactation support are immense. It addresses various concerns, potentially saving future healthcare costs.

  • I'm here to support you, and I can provide details about my NPI number and typical billing practices.
