Many women believe that breastfeeding is natural and instinctive. Others think that success or failure is simply a matter of chance. While breastfeeding is natural and instinctive, it is something that needs to be learnt.
In this article, I will list 5 things you can do to be prepared for breastfeeding, before giving birth.
1. Take Care of Your Health
Taking care of your health is already taking care of your future breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not just about the mammary glands. It depends on the entire endocrine system of the body. A poorly functioning thyroid or hormonal imbalance (reproductive system, obesity, diabetes, stress, etc.) can interfere with your breastfeeding. Similarly, breast surgery could damage the nerve that allows the milk ejection reflex.
2. Prepare for the Birth of Your Baby
The birth of your baby will directly influence the start of your breastfeeding. Preserving your childbirth as natural as possible will be a real plus for the beginning of your breastfeeding.
3. Understand the Mechanisms of Breastfeeding
If you understand how breastfeeding and your body work, you will know what you need to do to succeed in breastfeeding. Know that breastfeeding does not work by chance.
4. Surround Yourself with the Right People
Surround yourself with people who support breastfeeding and are sensitive to it. They will be good advice to you. Look for a gynecologist, a pediatrician, a midwife, a doula ... who will support you and defend your breastfeeding no matter what.
5. Prepare Your Mindset
Finally, prepare your intention around breastfeeding. What are you willing to put in place to succeed in your breastfeeding? Keep only positive images and testimonials about breastfeeding, get rid of false beliefs. Your state of mind will directly influence the hormones of breastfeeding. So be positive!
